The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued a new coin for the denomination of Rs 10. The new coin has been based on the theme of 'Unity in Diversity'.
It has an outer ring metal composition. It's bi-metallic (made up two metals). The outer ring is made of Aluminium and Bronze and the inner ring is made of Cupro-Nickel. The coin weighs around 9 grams only.
The face of the coin is divided into three portions. The central portion bears the "Lion Capitol" of Ashoka Pillar. RBI says the new coin is a stylised representation of "Unity in Diversity", a defining characteristic of India.
The Union finance ministry had entrusted National Institute of Design with the task of designing the coin. Principal designer and faculty of communication design Prof Anil Sinha headed the team which included product designer Sahil Karkhanis, three students signed on as research associates and ergonomist Dr Subir Das. Design Obverse : This face of the coin is divided into three portions. The centre portion shall bear the "Lion Capitol" of Ashoka Pillar with the legend 'Satyameva jayate(in Hindi)' inscribed below and the prominent international Numerals "10″ indicating the denomination. The top portion contains word "Bharat" in Hindi and "India" in English. The bottom portion contains the year in International Numerals. Reverse : This face of the coin contains the visuals showing stylised representation of "Unity in Diversity", a defining characteristic of our country. The symbol shall be seen as four heads sharing a common body. It shall be thought of as people from all four parts of the country coming together under one banner and identifying with one nation.
