Notifications Civil Services Exam (IAS 2015): Number of attempts

:: Number of attempts ::

   (a)  Every  candidate  appearing  at  the examination who is otherwise
   eligible, shall be permitted six attempts at the examination.

   Provided  that  this  restriction  on  the number of attempts will not
   apply  in the case of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes candidates
   who are otherwise eligible.

   Provided further that the number of attempts permissible to candidates
   belonging  to Other Backward Classes, who are otherwise eligible shall
   be  nine.  The  relaxation will be available to the candidates who are
   eligible to avail of reservation applicable to such candidates.

   Provided  further  that  a  physically  handicapped  will  get as many

Plan of Examination

   The competitive examination comprises two successive stages:
    1. Civil  Services (Preliminary) Examinations (ObjectiveType) for the
       selection of candidates for Main Examination
    2. Civil  Services (Main) Examination (Written and Interview) for the
       selection of candidates for the various services and posts.

   The  preliminary  Examination  will consist of two papers of Objective
   type  (multiple  choice questions) and carry a maximum of 400 marks in

Prelim exam Pattern 2015

Two papers – General Studies paper 1 and General Studies paper 2 (informally called CSAT). Both will be of 200 marks.

However, marks of only GS paper 1 will be taken into account to generate the list of candidates qualified for Mains.

In GS paper 2 (CSAT), a candidate need to score at least 33% marks. These marks will not be calculated in deciding the list of qualified candidate.

Answers must be written in English.

(1) India and the World

This part will include questions to test candidate's awareness of India's relationship with the world in various spheres such as the following:-

Foreign Affairs with special emphasis on India's relations with neighbouring countries and in the region.
Security and defence related matters.
Nuclear policy, issues, and conflicts.
The Indian Diaspora and its contribution to India and the world.
(2) India's Economic Interaction with the World

In this part, questions will be on economic and trade issues such as foreign trade, foreign investment; economic and diplomacy issues relating to oil, gas and energy flows; the role and functions of I.M.F., World Bank, W.T.O., WIPO etc. which influence India's economic interaction with other countries and international institutions.
