The Civil Sevices Prelims - 2009 results have been declared. Congratulations to those who have cleared the first hurdle to reach your Dream of becoming and IAS Officer. For those who did not clear, Dont Lose Heart. You can make it next time, if you start working diligently.
Its time to do some serious planning for both the Cleared and not Cleared candidates.
For those who Cleared Prelims....
Ideally you should have been preparing throughout june and july. By now you should have completed the syllabus atleast once and have a fair grip on both your optionals and GS.
Even if you have not done it, nevermind you still have a chance to coverup. Its not only the number of hours you put in, but also the quality that matters.
Some tips for You:
1. Identify the important areas in your syllabus and cover them first. Make note of points that are difficult to remember.
2. You should be thorough with atleast 70 percent of you syllabus in optionals. As for the rest of the syllabus you should be able to atleast manage a resaonably good answer.
3. Concentrate on areas like History, Geopgraphy and Polity which you are very familiar and syllabus is limited. Some of the past questions are repeated in these areas.
4. For Current Affairs get hold of written notes of Institutes like Vajiram. Wizard special issue for GS Current Affairs is also useful.
5. Devote some time to practice Statistics from the beginning. Dont backload it. You may end up neglecting the area. One can easily score 25 out of 40 here.
6. For Science and technology, read about standard areas like Space programme, Defence Projects, Nanotechnology, Stem cells etc..
7. Read GS Curren Affairs Blog for the past one year posts. We will be covering more from a mains perspective in the next one month.
It is important to score higher in Mains as it will decide wether you will get a Service or not. One may get Interview call with border mark, but it will not be sifficient to get yourself a rank in the Final List. One should target for a total of 1050 or above in the Mains.
