Why and how is Melatonin Zn-Se different from other brands of melatonin?

A D V E R T I S E M E N T
>

I feel that I must make you aware that ravenous gangs of meddlers and jackals spring up everywhere around Melatonin, profiting of the fact that in Italy and in the USA melatonin is considered, in the absence of a proper and intelligent definition, a 'dietary supplement' or even as a 'food additive' such as tomato sauce, and as such does not need a production controlled with the severe 'Good Manufacturing Practise' (GMP) which is used for the manufacture of any kind of prescription drugs. In this way the greedy profiters sell anything under the name of 'melatonin.' It is simply enough to mix, and then print an attractive package and in many cases to mask and disguise 'melatonin' in a way that it looks similar to the original design of Dr. Pierpaoli! Websites even exist on the internet where the visitor is deceived to believe that Dr. Pierpaoli himself is their 'consultant!'

Well, I must finally let you know that my Melatonin Zinc-Selenium (Zn-Se) is again available in the Italian pharmacies . It is produced GMP under my personal control for purity and quality, and every lot is analyzed at the end of the production similarly to drugs, in order to guarantee to the patient and to the consumer that the tablet he takes at bedtime, REALLY contains what is written on the package and on the label. It means, 3 mg melatonin (purity 99,9% which means the most expensive on the market), 50 mg zinc orotate (also this salt is very expensive) and 50 mcg selenium.

Besides this, you must know that Melatonin Zn-Se of Dr. Pierpaoli is the outcome of long and expensive experimental and clinical scientific works published in serious scientific journals and that every detail has been evaluated in order to produce the highest therapeutic effect. We are in fact a non-profit scientific organization where profit is totally devoted to research and does not land in the pocket of a profiter. Our Credo is 'Profit for Health' and not 'Health for Profit.'

Amongst the many truly dramatic differences which make my melatonin the best and not comparable to any other on the market, it is of paramount relevance to know that all 'excipients,' namely all the substances selected to be used for the filling of every tablet during its manufacture by compression, have been painfully studied in order to produce in the patient, person or consumer, a properly timed 'night peak' of melatonin produced by our juvenile pineal gland between 1 and 3 AM, when you sleep most deeply.

This peak perfectly mimicks and reproduces your own juvenile night peak! Your pineal will rest and will reacquire its pristine regulatory force. In fact in this way my Melatonin Zn-Se induces in the individual of any age that type and slope of the juvenile peak which serves as a message to maintain your own pineal at the state it was when you were young! This means that your pineal will be able to accomplish those hormonal regulatory tasks typical of a healthy person in his best juvenile conditions. This effect is due to the composition of the Melatonin Zn Se tablet and in particular to the assembly of its excipients!

Think of the health damage that an irresponsible and even criminal behavior only aimed at profit can produce in millions of persons, convinced that 'all melatonins are alike!' In fact not all excipients are suitable to create a juvenile night peak at the the right hour of the night, only Dr. Pierpaoli's Melatonin Zn Se has been specially created (and tested) to do so.

I should also mention that 'melatonin slow-release'versions which are sold may perhaps make you sleep longer but could also accelerate the aging of your pineal gland by distorting massively your natural night peak! Furthermore, sublingual melatonins exist, which are immediately absorbed in the blood stream, they anticipate the night peak and also distort massively your natural night peak! So they do not create at all a physiological, juvenile night peak signal!

In this jungle of melatonin-based products found in supermarkets and drugstores, also those disguised with my name and symbols, only ONE melatonin brand and make exists produced under my own personal quality control, derived and matured with the experience of 40 years of research.

It is a real gift to the World, the outcome of 26 years scientific research and clinical studies documented in my publications.

Do you think that, besides formulating absurd mixtures of melatonin with strange or doubtful excipients, the melatonin traffickers make the expensive quality control of every lot? If you believe that they are worried about your night peak and a properly timed absorption in the night, buy cheap and unkown melatonins, and only your faith will help you to believe they contain the dosage shown on the label.

I am however delighted to tell you that International Antiaging Systems have understsood the importance of my work and the technology of my Melatonin Zn Se and that they have been exclusively carrying it since 2003 and continue to offer it to this day.

An interview with Walter Pierpaoli, M.D. about melatonin

Walter Pierpaoli, M.D. is a world expert in melatonin and is a research scientist as well as a medical physician. His patients have benefited from this free thinking approach to health which is based on clinical evidence.

He is the author of many published studies and books and he is a strong advocate of the power of melatonin to help in many diseases and disorders as well as an aid to slow down and even reverse aspects of aging.

Here you can discover the reasons why, as IAS interviews Dr. Pierpaoli about the power behind melatonin.

Walter Pierpaoli, M.D.

  • Born in Milan, Italy in 1934
  • Graduated in medicine and holds a PhD in immunology.
  • He has his own research laboratory and Institute for Integrative Biomedical Research as well as the foundation for basic biomedical research in Zurich, Switzerland.
  • Is the Director of the Jean Choay institute for neuroimmunomodulation in Riva San Vitale (Switzerland)
  • His scientific and clinical activity extends from basic research to clinical studies of new anti-ageing interventions and therapies, plus a totally new transplantation method based on a discovery and granted patents.
  • He is author of over 130 publications on referenced scientific journals and the organizer of the Stromboli Conferences on Aging and Cancer.
  • He has also published popular books including the; "Melatonin Miracle" which has been translated into 15 languages and a New York Times bestseller.
  • His latest book "The key of life" updates information about melatonin and was released in 2008.

IAS: Dear Walter, please tell us why is melatonin so important?
WP: Because it is the most universal molecule we've ever come across. In essence it's a molecule that protects us from aging.

IAS: So where does it come from?
WP: It is produced in the pineal gland in the mid brain; it is also produced in some other parts of the body; however I do not consider it to be a hormone per se. It is a special molecule that existed before life began and has been put to a unique role.

IAS: What do you consider its primary function to be?
WP: To protect the pineal from aging and to allow the pineal to manufacture other chemicals that rebalance the entire hormone system, thus bringing order to the circadian cycle, the day-night cyclicity that governs our aging. An easy way to think of this is to imagine the pineal as the conductor of an orchestra (the hormones). Without a conductor the orchestra makes noise, with a conductor it makes music.

IAS: I know you have performed lot of animal and human research with melatonin, what sort of outcomes have you seen?
WP: Once the sleep cycles and the endocrine system come back into harmony there are many miraculous benefits. Our patients have conquered their cancers, Alzheimer's, cardiovascular disease, depression and their aging; I also want to mention a recent published trial has also shown that melatonin can reverse age related macular degeneration- this is a very important point as ARMD, a condition that people can go blind with, is currently untreatable.

IAS: Fascinating; I know we have a lot of information about melatonin on the IAS website including an article about the ARMD. But can I ask how can you be so sure that aging is reversed too?
WP: We conducted an experiment with mice, taking the old pineal gland out of an old mouse and putting it into a young mouse, at the same time we took out the young pineal from the young mouse and placed it into the old mouse. The young mouse aged quickly and the old mouse became young! We have published this information in medical journals and presented it as numerous conferences.

IAS: It's a wonder why this hasn't become widely known?
WP: There are many forces and dogmas against preventative medicine, especially in old Europe which seems to be set against the widespread use of melatonin, unlike the USA and some other countries where it can be purchased freely.

IAS: What about safety with melatonin?
WP: It is very safe indeed, the regular dose is 3 mg daily, yet one study gave women 300 mg daily for a year, 100 times the normal dose and yet no significant side effects or contradictions were recorded.

IAS: You mentioned earlier that the wake/ sleep cycle governs our ageing, does this mean that you believe in a pre-programmed limit to life?
WP: In a way the answer is yes, but the point is that melatonin resets the clock, literally turning back the hands of time. It gives us more time and perhaps more importantly it gives us better health with that time.

IAS: Do you think that you will be able to describe this concept further?
WP: I hope to publish a book about the rotation theory of ageing soon.

IAS: Do you believe that all the melatonin supplements on the market today are the same?
WP: Indeed they are not. In fact I became so unhappy with the poor quality of what I saw that I had to become involved with the production of a high quality product in Switzerland, according to Swiss pharmaceutical laws.

IAS: What is that product called and what makes it different from the others?
WP: It is called Melatonin Zn Se because it also contains zinc and selenium, important factors in enhancing the potency of the melatonin itself. Apart from the quality of the ingredients themselves, we also specially designed Melatonin Zn Se to release its melatonin as similar as possible to the natural night peak released by the pineal itself.

IAS: Why is that important?
WP: Being as close as we can to nature is always important. I want people to know that Melatonin Zn Se is NOT a sublingual or time released melatonin. Neither of these types of releases mimic the natural release, for example, sublingual is a short burst release and time released is too little for too long. Melatonin Zn Se has been designed to be in the middle as it were, to ensure that the correct dose is delivered over the right time scale.

IAS: What doses and timing do you recommend?
WP: The average a person should take is a 3 mg tablet 15-minutes before bedtime. Once in bed they should ensure that as soon as possible that they are in a dark room, no reading a book, no watching TV and good black out curtains that don't allow light to enter the room etc.

IAS: Why is that?
WP: Because light entering the eye destroys melatonin and therefore defeats the object of taking the supplement.

IAS: How long do you believe people should take melatonin for?
WP: The honest answer to that question is the rest of their life! But I would strongly recommend that people use melatonin nightly for at least 6-months, because according to our studies over this period a real change can be made to hormonal cyclicity and once the hormones are in balance real changes take place to immunity. Once immunity and self repair processes are in order many of the disorders, syndromes and other problems associated with aging begin to fade away!

IAS: What would you say to people that they have tried other melatonins and never noticed a difference?
WP: They really need to try my Melatonin Zn Se; they are then likely to notice the difference within a week. I am confident that we are producing the best quality product on the world market today and people are benefitting from our 20 plus year experience in the researching and understanding of this amazing molecule.

IAS: I agree with you, not only from a personal viewpoint but also the fact that many customers have reported that fact to us. At the end of the day, Melatonin Zn Se only costs cents per day and yet it appears to be one of the most remarkable antiaging supplements available today. I hope we can do some update articles for IAS members, as featured in your new book, the key of life, so that we can specify the different diseases that melatonin can address.
WP: That would be most welcome, the whole world needs to know about the power of melatonin to improve and indeed help to maintain their long term health.

Promote Restful Sleep With Antioxidant Benefits.

Melatonin is a natural hormone secreted by the pineal gland within the brain. It is produced at night to help the body regulate its sleep-wake cycles. Presently, it is most commonly associated with aiding general sleep patterns and sleep affected by jet lag.

However, research, including that conducted by Dr. Walter Pierpaoli, M.D., Ph.D., has shown that Melatonin is involved in a range of important body functions. More specifically, it has documented the effects of Melatonin as an anti-oxidant, on cancer, depressive disorders and endocrine disorders.

Melatonin has been shown to maintain youthful pineal function. Nightly administration prevents the aging pineal gland from producing it and as such, allows it to recover its regulatory capacity and juvenility. According to Dr. Pierpaoli, this was best demonstrated by his experiments which illustrated life extension following the graft of a young pineal gland into a much older recipient. Studies have illustrated that controlling the aging rate of the pineal gland with Melatonin may counteract the onset of many types of disease. It may also help to alleviate the impact of modern, environmental aggressors that negatively affect our physiological integrity.

Melatonin effectively scavenges toxic hydroxyl radicals, as well as peroxyl radicals generated during lipid peroxidation. As a result, it is considered to be twice as efficient as Vitamin E. Tests on both rats and mice using Melatonin resulted in a significant 20% increased lifespan. It is thought that this may be due to its ability to limit free radical damage, stimulate an aging immune system, protect the cardiovascular system, and stimulate the production of growth hormone. For these reasons, Melatonin is considered to be a vital anti-aging substance.

Melatonin and Cancer

Electromagnetic fields (EMF) have been associated with tumour growth and when the pineal gland is removed from rats, the incidence of tumours increases. Studies have shown that, with nightly administration, Melatonin can inhibit cancer growth. As an example, Blask et al., 1994 demonstrated that, reducing agents like Glutathione (an antioxidant containing cysteine, an amino acid needed for cellular energy production and proper immune function) eliminated the oncostatic (preventing the proliferation of cancer cells) effects of Melatonin in certain human breast cancer cells. In vitro Melatonin is more effective than Glutathione in scavenging highly toxic radicals, and more efficient than vitamin E in neutralizing peroxyl radicals. It also stimulates the main antioxidant brain enzyme, Glutathione Peroxidase, making it a potent antioxidant.

Melatonin and Endocrine Disorders

External magnetic fields have been found to synchronize Melatonin secretion, and may be beneficial in treating postmenopausal Osteoporosis. In animals, pineal melatonin is involved in regulating calcium and phosphorus metabolism. Menopause is associated with a decline in Melatonin secretion and increased pineal calcification.

Research has also linked Melatonin with a stronger immune system, as it is known to target the Thymus gland. This is responsible for the formation of T-lymphocytes, an essential part of the immune system.

IAS offers a specific form of Melatonin that has been formatted by Dr. Pierpaoli. It is a pharmaceutical grade Melatonin that is bonded with selenium and zinc. These substances work synergistically with Melatonin to produce a greater effect.
