Students of Delhi College of Engineering build hybrid car(18,
Dec 2006)
Students of DCE and IIT Delhi are building the early prototypes
of hybrid cars that could have the potential to take on the
global market. A hybrid car runs on both electricity and petrol
thereby increasing the mileage and reducing carbon emissions.

The hybrid car is also a low maintenance vehicle and environment
friendly. Auto giant Mahindra and Mahindra has funded the
project with a 6.5 lakh grant. If everything works out, the
hybrid car could well turn out to be a value for money deal.
Mouthwash to help cancer treatment pain(16,
Dec 2006)
Scientists at the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology and
Regional Cancer Centre Trivandrum have developed a cheap and
effective relief solution for oral cancer patients suffering
from mucositis associated with radiation. They have developed an
ayurvedic mouthwash consisting of three commonly used medicinal
herbs for controlling mouth sores and gum inflammations.
A year long clinical study on 148 patients with oral cancer
undergoing radiotherapy found the mouthwash effective in
reducing pain besides minimizing oral bacterial infections and
cutting down on consumption of painkillers. The approximate
production cost in an experimental set up has been estimated to
be just 65 paise per dose.
Microsoft's Software to enable multiple mousse on a PC(16,
Dec 2006)
Two young researchers from Microsoft Research in Bangalore
developed a concept of Multipoint, where any device can be
connected multiple times to a PC. Microsoft is acting to convert
this into a full fledged software. The basic idea is to increase
the student to PC ratio in schools. In 18 primary rural primary
schools studied by researchers, the student to PC ratio was as
high as 10:1 which is typical for most rural schools in India.
Often, one PC is used for the entire class. With Multipoint
there is going to be a dramatic change.
