State Eligibility Test-2011

The Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (Authorised Agency) announces holding of State Eligibility Test (SET) on 21/08/2011 (Sunday) for determining the Eligibility for Lectureship in universities and colleges located within the State of Himachal Pradesh. The test will be conducted in 20 subjects listed below at various examination centres located at Shimla, Solan, Mandi and Dharamshala.

1. English 2. Chemical Sciences 3. Life Sciences 4. Hindi 5. Geography 6. Sociology 7. Music 8. Physical Education 9. Economics 10 Political Science 11. Environmental Science 12. Commerce 13. Mathematical Sciences 14. Sanskrit 15. History 16. Physical Sciences 17. Public Administration 18. Computer Science & Applications 19. Tourism Administration & Management 20. Mass Communication And Journalism.
Syllabus Of Test:

 (Download Syllabi) The Syllabi For All The Subjects Are That Of Ugc / Csir Examinations And The Same Can Be Downloaded From H.P. Public Service Commission Website www.hp.gov.in/hppsc  The Syllabi Can Also Be Downloaded From Ugc Website www.ugc.ac.in  This Agency Will Not Supply The Copies Of Syllabus To The Individual Candidates.
Age Limit & Relaxation:
There is no upper age limit to apply for lectureship eligibility.
Condition Of Eligibility:
Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master's Degree OR equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognised by UGC in Humanities (including languages) and Social Sciences, Computer Science & Applications, Electronic Science etc. are eligible for this Test. The Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Physically Handicapped (PH)/Visually Handicapped (VH) category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master's degree or equivalent examination are eligible for this Test.
Candidates who have appeared OR will be appearing at the qualifying Master's degree (final year) examination and whose result is still awaited OR candidates whose qualifying examinations have been delayed may also apply for this Test. However, such candidates will be admitted provisionally and shall be considered eligible for Lectureship only after they have passed their Master's degree examination or equivalent with at least 55% marks (50% marks in case of SC/ST/PH/VH category candidates). Such candidates must complete their P.G. degree examination within two years from the date of SET result with required percentage of marks, failing which they shall be treated as disqualified.
The Ph.D. degree holders whose Master's level examination had been completed by 19th September, 1991 (irrespective of date of declaration of result) shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks (i.e., from 55% to 50%) for appearing in SET.
Candidates are advised to appear in the subject of their post-graduation only.
Candidates seeking concession in fee are required to submit attested copy of their OBC (Non-creamy layer)/SC/ST/PH/VH certificate along with online printout of their Application Forms (obtained while applying on-line). Other candidates are not required to submit any certificates/documents in support of their eligibility. Therefore, the candidates, in their own interest, must satisfy themselves about their eligibility for the Test. In the event of any ineligibility being detected by the Commission at any stage, their candidature will be cancelled and they shall be liable for legal action.
Candidates with post-graduate diploma/certificate course(s), should in their own interest, ascertain the equivalence of their course(s) with Master's degree of recognized Indian universities from Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi. (www.aiuweb.org).
Exemption (For Lectureship):
NET/SLET/SET shall remain the minimum eligibility condition for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professors in Universities/ Colleges/Institutions. Provided however, that candidates, who are or have been awarded a Ph. D. Degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009, shall be exempted from the requirement of the minimum eligibility condition of NET/SLET/SET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor or equivalent positions in Universities/ Colleges/Institutions.
For SET Candidates: The candidates who have cleared the State Eligibility Test (SET) accredited by UGC for eligibility for Lectureship held prior to 1st June 2002,
are exempted from appearing in NET, being eligible to apply for Lectureship anywhere in India. For SET held from 1st June 2002 onwards, the qualified candidates are eligible to apply for the post of lecturer only in the universities/ colleges belonging to the state from where they have cleared their SET.
Scheme Of Test:
The test will consist of three papers. All the three papers will be held on one day in two separate sessions as under:
Session Paper Marks Duration
First I 100 75 Minutes (10 AM to 11-15 AM).
First II 100 75 Minutes (11-30 AM to 12-45 PM).
Second II 200 150 Minutes(2-30PM to 5-00PM)

Paper-I: shall be of general nature, intended to assess the teaching/ research aptitude of the candidates. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate. Sixty (60) multiple choice questions of two marks each will be given, out of which the candidate would be required to answer any fifty (50). In the event of the candidate attempting more than fifty questions, the first fifty questions attempted by the candidate would be evaluated.

Paper-II: shall consist of short questions based on the subject selected by the candidate. Each of these papers will consist of a Test Booklet containing 50 compulsory objective type questions of two marks each. The candidates will have to mark the response for each question of Paper I and Paper-II on the OMR answer sheet provided along with the Test Booklet.

Paper-III: Will consist of only descriptive question from the subject selected by the candidate. The candidate will be required to attempt question in the space
provided in the Test Booklet. The structure of Paper-III is as under:
Section-I: Essay writing- two questions with internal choice on general themes and contemporary, theoretical or of disciplinary relevance may be given. The candidate is expected to write up to 500 words for each questions of 20 marks (2 Q X 20 M = 40 Marks). In case the questions are based on electives, the choices should have questions from each electives ; otherwise all choices should be of general nature, common to all candidates. In case of science subject like computer science and application, environmental sciences, electronic science etc., two questions carrying 20 marks each may be given in place of essay type questions. The questions in this section should be numbered as 1 and 2.
Section-II: Three extended answer based questions to test the analytical ability of the candidate are to be asked on the major specialization / electives. Questions will be asked on all major specializations / electives and the candidates may be asked to choose one specialization / electives and answer the three questions. There is to be no internal choice. Each question will be answered in up to 300 words and shall carry 15 marks each (3 Q X 15 M = 45 Marks). Where there is no specialization/elective, three questions may be set across the syllabus. The question in this section should be numbered from 3 to 5.
Section-III: Nine questions may be asked across the syllabus. The questions will be definitional or seeking particular information and are to be answered in up to 50 words each. For science subjects as mentioned in section-I, short numerical / computational problems may be considered. Each question will carry 10 marks (9 Q X 10 M = 90 Marks). There should be no internal choice. The questions in this section should be numbered from 6 to 14.
Section-IV: It requires the candidates to answer question from a given text of around 200 � 300 words taken from the works of known thinker / author. Five carefully considered specific questions are to be asked on the given text, requiring an answer in up to 30 words each. This section carries 5 questions of 5 marks each ( 5 Q X 5 M = 25 Marks). In the case of science subjects, a theoretical / numerical problem may be set. These questions are meant to test critical thinking, ability to comprehend and apply knowledge one possesses. Questions in this section should be numbered as 15 to 19.FEE:
Online Mode Candidates applying for the test are required to pay fee of Rs. 500/- for General category and Rs. 125/- for S.C. / S.T. / OBC/PH/VH categories by cash at any branch of Punjab National Bank, through a challan generated through the above website.
How To Apply:

Candidates are required to visit at www.hp.gov.in/hppsc  and click the link to Detailed instructions for filling up Online Applications are available on the above mentioned website. The candidates already registered with HPPSC for other examinations / test need not to register again and they may use said User ID and Password for applying online.

NOTE: The provisionally admitted candidates may download the admit cards along with instructions for appearing in the State Eligibility Test-2011 from the
official website www.hp.gov.in/hppsc. If any candidate appears at a centre other than those allotted by the Commission in his / her admit card, the answer sheet of such candidate will not evaluated and his / her candidature will be cancelled. SET qualified candidates shall be eligible to apply for the post of Lecturer (College Cadre) only in the University/Colleges belonging to Himachal Pradesh State.
