Great Memory Power is enough: Candidates think that by memorizing everything given in textbooks and coaching notes they will be able to qualify the UPSC Civil Services IAS Prelims Exam. However, though many questions are factual a large number of questions in the UPSC Civil Services exam have increasingly been on understanding. For this a great memory is not enough, aptitude is equally important.
All subjects are equally important: No, all subjects are not equally important. For example, in the past UPSC Civil Services IAS Prelims Exam, there have been more questions on Geography than on  Physics. Candidates should thus prioritise the subjects accordingly.
You have to know everything: It is not possible to know everything for the UPSC Civil Services IAS Prelims Exam. However, if you have prepared up to medium level for most subjects and upto advanced level for some subjects, it should be sufficient.
